Sri Lanka Tourism recently conducted three roadshows to highlight its appeal as a premier travel destination for Australian tourists seeking winter getaways. These events took place in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, beginning with the first roadshow at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth on July 11, 2023. Key attendees included Hon. Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando, Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Western Australia Rosh Jalagge, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chalaka Gajabahu, and Sri Lanka Tourism Ambassador Sanath Jayasuriya.
Significant discussions were held with Western Australia’s Deputy Premier, Treasurer, and Minister of Transport and Tourism, Rita Saffioti. Notably, Minister Harin Fernando and Ms. Saffioti explored the potential for launching direct flights from Perth to Colombo and discussed possibilities for cultural exchange programs and sports holidays. An event for industry experts, including travel agents and the Sri Lankan community in Western Australia, followed, promoting Sri Lanka as a prime tourist destination. Plans for a major tourism roadshow in 2024 were also set in motion.
